The World's Fair Project
1)
Throughout this project I learned many things about my country that I didn't know previously. I learned about many innovations in technology and science that I had not known we created. I researched and found how our improvements in technology affected the world we live in today and was impressed by what I found and how we contributed to today's society. Some of these inventions were zippers, the conveyor belt, washing machines, modern day planes, the ferris wheel, among many more.
2)
My group recreated the airplane, originating in North Carolina by the wright brothers. We chose this because we felt that it was an extremely important addition to the society we live in today. Without the modern day plane, travel would be significantly more difficult for everyone. In hindsight I think that it would've been better if we had made it move or made it more interesting as ours, in my opinion, was a little underwhelming. I do think that if we had more time we could've figured out how to make it more sufficient. After seeing some of the products at exhibition I do think that we could've done a little better but that our product was decent.
3)
The prototype process proved to be extremely useful for our group in particular. After creating the prototype I looked at the measurements again and realized that it was probably too small to be a final product and adjusted the measurements from there. Viviana, our group member in charge of construction, decided that because the model looked a little too simple and basic that we should try to stick to their original way of building it. The purpose of making a prototype was to test different ways and theories of making the plane and I'm very glad we had that opportunity to test and adjust future drafts to find the best model.
4)
During this project I got the chance to learn more about Russia as they were our opposition country. This gave me a chance to learn history about another place that I had never known or learned at school and I'm glad that I know more about it now. If I had to pick another country to learn more about I would probably pick China. Their group was very organized and when I saw what they had learned I was interested in learning more for myself. There were also a lot of other countries that were presented that I would have loved to learn more about as I was impressed by the group's knowledge, however if I had to pick one it would be China.
5)
At exhibition I felt that I did a very good job of participating. I stayed at the booth for most of the time trying my best to catch people's attention to tell them about what I've learned. I kept my pitch to a good amount so as not to lose their attention, but long enough to explain our process. The rest of the time I was either at the opposition's table or trying to get more people over to our booth. Overall I think that our booth was okay. We found our country's flag and had other smaller flags so that people knew who we were and our essays for people to read as well. I do think that we could have done more to make it interesting, as compared to other countries it wasn't quite as flashy. Our product was well constructed, however if given more time I think that we would have made a little more interesting by making it move or putting more detail into it.
6)
Overall I think that exhibition was a success. Everyone in my group was in a social, inviting mood which helped catch people's attention and we all explained the product thoroughly and gave information on our country. We had a lot of fun explaining what we learned while learning about the other countries as well. Some people that we talked were very interested and asked questions which was also nice because we got the chance to recall everything that we had learned and answer their questions.
