College Field Trip Reflection
I personally had a pretty good experience, the college tours were very interesting and overall I learned a lot about college and what life is like after high school. The trip really helped me come up with more factors that I want when choosing a college and helped me become more confident in my intended major.
I noticed that we toured a lot of engineering and science based schools which isn’t exactly what I’m interested in. Other than that I noticed a lot of differences in school activities, programs, dorms, campuses, etc. This helped me to notice what I liked in a college and what to look for when choosing a college.
I’ve always been afraid to leave my family when going to college and this helped me adjust and realize that I’d rather go to a college somewhere in California so that I’m not too far from home. While in the places around the colleges I noticed that I really liked the small towns and being near shops and restaurants for convenience. A common fear among kids going off to college is having to become completely independent so fast, which is something that I am nervous of as well. Because of this I think that some factors like dorm life, being close to restaurants and shops, and campus clubs and programs are really important to me when looking for the right college. I think that by being involved in something while in college will help me adjust to being independent.
I am definitely looking forward to meeting new people and learning new things, I’m really excited to be independent even though it might be scary at first. The idea that I’ll be learning and studying something that will help me in my future career is really exciting because I look at it as the beginning of life outside of high school and in the real world. One thing that I’m concerned about is adjusting because I think that it will be difficult for me personally to get used to life as a college student.
I am not really very interested in studying abroad just because of the fact that it will be difficult for me to adjust to being in college let alone being somewhere completely different. However, I did hear a couple interesting clubs which might help me adjust in the future. My intended major is business and my intended minor is digital art so I would like to go to a pretty balanced school.
