Exhibition Reflection

During this project I enjoyed learning more about our characters in English and planning
out what we were going to say at exhibition and answers to common questions people may
have about us. This was very helpful because we were more prepared to answer questions
and to act like our characters, it helped us get a better understanding as to what they were like.
I also enjoyed the writing pieces we did, I had a lot of fun recreating Leonardo Da Vinci’s writing and coming up with something that he would write. Learning more about my character allowed me to capture what he was like and to help me create examples, one of them being the mirrored handwriting that I used to create my writing piece.
In history we learned a lot about the Renaissance and what happened during it. We learned about the crusades, about different rulers and their stories, issues that occurred during this time like the diseases and legal issues. Other that their struggles we also learned about their triumphs. How the Renaissance was a time of change and revolutionary for subjects like art, philosophy, writing, math, music, inventions, and many more. We learned that after the Middle Ages, people decided to start to be more influential and take up careers in the subjects listed above to help further the construction of our current knowledge of the world.
During the Renaissance project in math we started learning about probability. I found this interesting because of how it was tied into the project. Throughout the learning process we solved probability problems and learned how to put that probability into and equation to predict the observed or theoretical probability. I personally appreciate the aspect of learning to break down an equation as that is a very important skill in math and I’m glad we got the chance to learn a bit more about it. Towards the end of this project we started on our math games which had to be a recreation or inspired by a game played during the Renaissance. These games had to include a probability aspect which tied in perfectly with our learning.
During this semester in art we learned quite a bit about different Renaissance artists and the techniques they used. This helped us learn some useful art tips and essential tools for creating an art piece. We did art pieces inspired by artists from the Renaissance and in doing that, learned more about how those artists were unique and how art heavily influenced the Renaissance. One of the assignments we had was to recreate an art piece (or make something inspired) by a Renaissance artist. For this assignment I took an aspect of Leonardo Da Vinci’s art and made my own piece off of that. He originally created the perspective-like paintings in a way that showed more depth and understanding how things were placed depending on that depth. I decided to take this tactic and create my own art piece around that idea. Near the end of the semester we did a final piece, one inspired by an artist we think was influential in some way. All of them ended up looking amazing and were a great part of the exhibition.
Spanish this semester was quite a bit more challenging, but I ended up learning more than I had known and it was very useful. Although we didn’t exactly have a Spanish part of our exhibition I still think that what we learned is important for our future. Last year we learned basic Spanish and learned new words while this year was mostly focused on conjugations and translating. Although it was a little difficult to translate words we hadn’t learned, I had a lot of fun learning the different conjugations and complexity of the language.
On a scale from one to ten I would say that this project would be a 5 because although the work we did was challenging in a good way for the most part, there was quite a bit of pressure during exhibition time as there normally is. I wouldn’t necessarily say that this project was not challenging or challenging, I found most of the work to be a very good level to handle and although the mental floss tests were no piece of cake, I enjoyed learning what we did. It was refreshing to learn about something new and most of the assignments and group work I thought went smoothly and I didn’t really have too many problems with it.
The only thing that I found to be quite challenging was the fact that around the middle/end of the semester the workload was a little crazy. There were a lot of assignments which was to be expected, but they were quite difficult to keep track of. Most were easier to keep track of because our teachers had them on Edmodo and had reminders, but little things like making a costume and finishing an assignment before the deadline would always get mixed up in the craziness of exhibition. Some of my classmates and I had a group chat or would ask each other what we may have forgotten or still needed to do. I could’ve prevented this problem by writing everything down, however in finishing everything up I got distracted and had to finish some things last minute because some of us would get due dates mixed up or something would be changed. All in all, there weren’t really any problems. I usually get a little stressed during exhibition time but this time it was good, not very stressful and the workload wasn’t as crazy as I had expected it to be.
I actually received a lot of feedback, some I didn’t write down because they were some shared ideas or little critiques but I did have classmates critique my writing as I critiqued theirs which was extremely helpful in creating the whole thing. At one point I had done a little rough draft and asked a classmate to critique me on it, their critique was extremely helpful as it helped me to correct the aspect of writing mirrored and helped me make it more accurate. A lot of the critique that I got for this piece and for a lot of other assignments this exhibition was very well written and thought out.
I’d say that I’m probably pretty proud of my writing piece. I put a lot of effort in to make sure it was publish worthy and I really enjoyed writing it. The piece that I chose to write it as was as a journal and I liked this a lot because it allowed me to think like my character and to write what I think he would say depending on what I already knew about him. I tried my best to replicate what I most thought he would do in a normal day of his which is what I wrote about. Not only capturing what he did but what he was thinking as well. I found it very interesting to get into his mindset and replicate what he would be like and what he would experience.
I personally think that this exhibition went very well for me, I had a lot of fun with it and got all of my work in so I wasn’t too stressed like most tend to get. I thought it was amazing to see everyone’s hard work on display and what a great job everyone did. So many people put a lot of hard work into it and it was a lot of fun to setup and act as our characters during the exhibition. One thing I enjoyed a lot before the exhibition started was setting up the space. We got into our groups and shared ideas for what we wanted it to look like. I liked this because people were very invested in the conversation and devoted to making the space look nice and presentable. There was a lot of good teamwork and I loved seeing how much work everyone put into making it happen. As the exhibition was going on I loved pretending to be my character and listen as someone I was talking to asked questions. I felt very well prepared as I knew a lot about my character going in to the exhibition and I think that’s what helped me a lot. I honestly wouldn’t really change anything, I thought that this exhibition went really well and turned out very nice.
I definitely learned a lot this last semester and I do think that I know of the lasting impact of the Renaissance. Especially while learning about Leonardo Da Vinci, one of the most influential people of the Renaissance, I understand completely how everything ties in and makes the Renaissance so influential and how it has had a lasting impact on our world and society today. There were several things that made the Renaissance so influential, some of them being the art, the inventions, the advancements in technology, math, science, architecture, and many many more topics. During this time people had a lot more time to focus on creating new things rather than worrying as the Middle Ages just before them were such dark times, giving them not a lot of people in that time who bothered trying to advance in anything but medicine which was very heavily religiously based at the time anyway. After the dark times were over, people started to want to improve and become more innovative which has given us some of the things we see today.
During this project I really tried my best to be involved and to help out more than I usually do. I also think that I did a good job keeping up with my work and didn’t have a lot of issues concerning that this year which was good. During this specific project I think that I did quite a good job with my groupwork, gave detailed critique to help group members, made sure my work was publish worthy by making drafts and using the critique that was given to me. I also helped with a lot of the exhibition setup and brainstorming, I thought that I contributed a good amount throughout the process. With the assignments, I strived to make them as publish worthy as I could and put a lot of effort into getting everything done. Considering I could have been a little more organized throughout the last parts of the project, I think that the grade I deserve for this project would be an A.
